Weight Distribution and Sway Control Recommendation for a 2008 GMC Yukon Towing 7,200 Pound Trailer
Question:
Tow vehicle is an 08 Yukon 4x4, 5.3L, w/trailer package, class IV hitch frame mounted. Trailer is a car hauler, 22ft, 3450 unladen weight, approx. 7200 loaded. Yukon is rated for 8100 total towing weight. Do I have the right product for weight distribution/sway control?

When choosing a weight distribution system, you will want to go with one that has a tongue weight capacity range that encompasses the tongue weight of your trailer. In this case, the tongue weight of the trailer would be as little as 350 pounds, unloaded, or as much as 1,080 pounds when loaded. The system you have referenced, # RP66087, is rated for 400 to 800 pounds tongue weight. It would be better to go to the next step up, 600 to 1,200 pounds to better encompass the tongue weight range. When unloaded, the only disadvantage will be a slightly stiffer ride but nothing that would be of concern.
I recommend the Strait-Line Weight Distribution System w Sway Control, # RP66084. This system comes with dual-cam sway control that stop trailer sway before it starts. It also comes with the compatible shank. All that you would need is a properly sized hitch ball like # 19286 (2-5/16 inch diameter) or # A-90 (2 inch diameter).
I have included links to the installation details along with a link to an FAQ on weight distribution and sway control for reference.
