Recommended Base Plates To Flat Tow A 2016 Chevy Colorado Z71
Question:
I have 2016 Chev Colorado Z71. Its not the Trail Boss edition. What makes the Trail Boss not compatible with the Roadmaster baseplate pkg. Would like to install this on my Z71 without major changes to the grill. thanks.

I can't find any reason why a Trail Boss edition is any different for base plates than any other model. At this time, there is not a Roadmaster Base Plate Kit confirmed to work with adaptive cruise control sensors, so maybe that is the issue you have run into.
For your 2016 Chevy Colorado Z71, I recommend the Blue Ox Base Plate Kit - Removable Arms # BLU93FR. I recommend using Loctite Threadlocker # LT37420 with this installation.
For a tow bar, I recommend the Blue Ox Alpha Tow Bar - Motorhome Mount - 6,500 lbs # BX7380 to connect your Colorado to your Motorhome. You may want a hitch lock like # e98882 to secure your investment. This tow bar comes with the safety cables needed.
For your vehicle wiring, I recommend the Roadmaster Diode 7-Wire to 6-Wire Flexo-Coil Wiring Kit # RM-15267. This kit will utilize your vehicle wiring while protecting it from issue. This kit will also give you a clean connection at the front of your Colorado to attach it to your motorhome. I've attached a video of this installation as well.
For your supplemental braking system, I recommend the SMI Stay-IN-Play DUO # SM99251. This is a great proportional braking system that applies the brakes in your Colorado with the same amount of pressure and at the same time as you hit the brakes in your towing vehicle. It is a very well made system that lets you adjust it at install and then never need to adjust it again. It has the integrated breakaway system as well. It is a favorite of our installers because it is simple to install with great reliability. You will need the Roadmaster Brake-Lite Relay Kit for Towed Vehicles # RM-88400 for this installation as well.
The last thing you need is a hi-low adapter. I've attached an article to help you choose the right one along with a link to our adapters for you.
