According to TruRyde, the bar stock material used on spindles like # TRU84FR is SAE 1045 hot rolled. This allows the spindle to harden to an extent, but it is a medium tensile steel with a tensile strength of 570-700 MPa and Brinell hardness ranging between 170 and 210.
The spindle is designed to retain a slight amount of flex to retain its durability when a trailer goes over a bump or through a hole in the road.
TruRyde Spindle # TRU84FR is rated for use on 3,500 lb axles.
