Weight Distribution with Sway Control Recommendation for 3,500 lb Travel Trailer

Question:

Hello, I have a 3500 Jayco Hybrid travel trailer and am not satisfied with the friction sway control hitch it came with. I was told to purchase a Blue Ox system. If you agree, can you tell me what model to buy? This year I will be pulling it with a 2017 Durango V8. Thanks very much,

Blue Ox really isn't what I would recommend as a first choice for weight distribution and sway control. I really like the Strait Line systems as they have sway control that works to keep the trailer inline before sway would even start. Unlike friction sway control which just tries to minimize it once it's started.

The best way to pick out a weight distribution system is to base it off of the loaded tongue weight of the setup when it is loaded and ready to tow. This figure also includes the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle. I attached a help article on determining tongue weight for you to check out as well. You will want the loaded tongue weight of your setup to fall right in the middle of the tongue weight range of the system you use.

Most likely the best setup will be the Strait Line part # RP66083 which has a tongue weight range of 400-800 lbs.

For a 2 inch ball you would want part # A-90 and for a 2-5/16 inch ball # 19286.
