Can the Power Wire on my 7-Way Connector Power the Automatic Open Function of my Tonneau Cover
Question:
I have a 2000 Chevy Silverado that I purchased from an auction years ago. It has a pollak 12-705 adpater in the truck and look sto have been used for towing at one time. My question is can I use that plug to power lights and my automatic open function on my Jason tonneau cover.

Typically 7-way connectors that are hard-wired are run through a 40 amp circuit breaker to protect the circuit. As long as the power lights and open function of your Jason tonneau cover draws less amperage than that, you should be fine.
I would recommend contacting the manufacturer of the tonneau cover to determine what kind of amperage the motor of the tonneau cover draws when operated.
Also, you should check to make sure there is some kind of circuit protection (fuse or circuit breaker), that is on the circuit to protect it before you operate the motor.
You should check to see if the power post is being used at the power distribution panel under the hood, and then you should check under the fuse panel to see if there is a 40 amp fuse in the location nearest to the power post. Check out the link attached below for more installation details.
To the right is a picture that has the above mentioned power post and fuse highlighted.
