Recommended Weight Distribution System with 2-1/2 Inch Receiver for 8,000 Pound Trailer
Question:
2009 Chevy Silverado 2500 with 2.5 inch receiver. Planning on travel trailer purchase in loaded weight range around 7500 to 8000 lbs. Which Equalizer hitch would be best ? 10K, 12K or 14K ? Will it have 2.5 inch shank or will I have to use a sleeve for 2 inch to fit in 2.5 inch receiver ? Thank You.

Since you're trailer will be between 7,500 to 8,000 pounds loaded and ready to tow its tongue weight should be between 750 to 1,200 pounds. To find the exact tongue weight you can use a scale like # e99044. To choose a weight distribution system you'll want to add the trailer's tongue weight to the amount of weight you have in the back of your 2009 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 behind the rear axle.
With your setup you'll likely fall in under the 1,200 pound mark so the Reese Strait-Line # RP66074 will work for you. This is a 1,200 pound system that uses cams for sway control. If you find that you are over the 1,200 pounds then you can increase it to the 1,500 pound system # RP66130. Both will need a 2-1/2 inch shank, # RP54976, and a hitch ball # 19286.
If you find you're on the light side of everything and don't need a system rated as high you can use the Reese Steadi-Flex # RP66559 with the reducer # C45405. This system is rated for 1,000 pounds tongue weight but fits a 2 inch receiver. It includes the 2 inch shank but will still need the same hitch ball mentioned earlier.
