Compatibility of Disc Brake Kits for Idler Hubs on Boat Trailer

Question:

Team, I have a Vault brand, torsion, idle spindle system on my boat that I would like to keep. The torsion spindle has a built in four bolt pattern mount for a caliper bracket. Will this hub less rotor fit my existing spindle? My trailer is a 2015 McLane tandem with 2100 GAWR and 15inch tires. The bolt pattern is 5 lugs, 4.5.

The Kodiak Disc Brake Kit # K2R35S is designed for 3500-lb-rated axles that have idler hubs and allows converting them from idler to disc brake operation. The bolt pattern determines whether they will fit on your idler hubs; and they will fit a #84 spindle like # TRU64FR.

This system would brake too aggressively if installed on a 2100-lb GAWR axle. Brakes should always be selected based on the axle weight rating; this is true for disc or drum brakes.

Typically a 2100-lb axle will have electric drum brakes. The lowest-rated disc brakes kits we offer are for 2000-lb axles and are shown on the linked page. These include hubs and fit only on wheels up to 13-inches (wheels, not tires).

If you can tell me the inner and outer bearings in your current idler hubs I can check options for compatible hub/rotors with the 5-on-4-1/2 bolt pattern that use the same bearings and that will fit your current spindles. A new hub must use the same bearing set in order for it to fit on your spindles.
