The actual distance from the ground to the bottom of the receiver tube on Curt Class III hitch # C13146 depends on a few things, including passenger and cargo load, the inflation pressure and the tire tread depth, and sometimes the tire size on the car. When we installed this hitch on a 2016 Pilot the bottom of the receiver tube was approximately 12-1/4-inches above level ground when the vehicle was unoccupied.

Your 2017 Honda Pilot came with a choice of two tire sizes, 245/50-20 and 245/60-18. These tires have similar overall diameters of 29.6- and 29.5-inches respectively. A new tire in either size will have more tread depth than one with 40K miles on it. Naturally a fully-inflated tire will also stand taller than one that is under-inflated. But the biggest impact on ground clearance will be the passenger and cargo load in the Pilot, and particularly how much of that sits behind the rear axle.
