Can I Fit a Hitch From a 2005 Toyota Prius on a 2012 Toyota Prius

Question:

Can you tell me what the distance is between the brackets on center for trailer hitch part # 24847? This was the one you recommended to use earlier. Our distance is about 40 inches, but we have a hitch form our 2005 prius that is almost right but the brackets are too short and the holes are a different size. It appears that the distance between the brackets on center is about the same.

For the Draw-Tite Hitch Receiver # 24847 the distance from the center of the mounting hole on the driver's side to the center of the hitch receiver is 18-1/4 inches and from the center of the mounting hole on the passenger's side to the center of the hitch receiver is 18 inches. The distance from the center of either of the mounting holes on the driver's side to the center of either of the mounting holes on the passenger's side is 36-1/4 inches.

These two model years require two completely different trailer hitches, which is why your hitch won't fit properly.

Just another measurement for you: from the center of the mounting hole on the driver's side to the inside edge of the bracket is 1-1/4 inches and from the center of the mounting hole on the passenger's side to the inside edge of the bracket is 4-1/4 inches.
