What is the Correct Weight Distribution System to Use With a Empty Tongue Weight of 1270 Lbs

Question:

I am interested in a Husky centerline TS rated at 800-1200 I am purchasing a Jayco Eagle TT with a dry tongue weight of 1270# GVWR of 11250# Unloaded weight of 9300# My question is that I am over the rated hitch capacity on tongue weight. The overall weight is within specs. Can you shed some light on this? Thanks

If your travel trailer will have a unloaded tongue weight of 1270 lbs, then the Husky Center Line Weight Distribution System, # HT32218 will be too small for your application. When choosing a weight distribution system it is best to have your total tongue weight (the loaded and ready tow tongue weight) fall in between the tongue weight range that the weight distribution system is rated. Total tongue weight will also include any cargo that you will have loaded in your vehicle that is located behind the rear axle plus the loaded and ready to tow trailer.

If your total tongue weight exceeds the tongue weight rating of the weight distribution system, then you would be over stressing and negating the weight distribution features of the system.

For your travel trailer, if you are going to have a total tongue weight that is greater than 1200 lbs, I recommend the Curt TruTrack Weight Distribution System, # C17501. The Curt TruTrack has a tongue weight rating rage of 1,000 to 1,500 lbs. The TruTrack system is designed to connect to the trailer in a similar fashions as the Husky system. However, the Curt TruTrack has an active control system to prevents sway by building up pressure on the spring bars and then relaxing to allow for smooth turns. The Curt hitch is also more economical product over the Husky system.

I have included help articles on choosing a weight distributions system and how to measure tongue weight for you to review.
