Replacement Bargman Breakaway System Switch Because Pin has Gotten Stuck

Question:

I thought Id try pulling the pin on my Bargman #85 breakaway switch to confirm it came out fairly freely. I hadnt used the subject 5th wheel trailer for 10 years, but even so was surprised how seized up the switch was. The pin never did come out and finally the head of the pin broke off, Id say at a force of about 50 lbs. My question is, are all of these breakaway switches essentially the same, and would you recommend one as being less likely to seize up than the Bargman #85? I will then order what you recommend.

All breakaway kits function the same. It's basically just a pin that is released to then complete a circuit which engages the trailer's brakes. Having a pin be stuck after not moving for 10 years isn't too surprising so I wouldn't be alarmed by it. I recommend testing your system more often. As a tip it is best to unplug your trailer from the 7-way when testing. Some brake controllers can be damaged.

If you need a new switch you can use # 3802348.
