The Curt # C11272 is confirmed to fit your 2012 Mini Cooper. This is a Class I hitch receiver with a 1-1/4 inch opening. It also includes a pin and clip.
Per Curt's warranty, you'll also need a Hitch Support Strap # 18050 when carrying non-trailer loads like a bike rack.
If you're looking for a hitch mount bike rack as well, the Kuat Beta # B202-114 is a great option for a Class I hitch. It's made of sturdy aluminum so it's light and durable. It will carry up to two bikes. If you're going to be carrying any women's or children's bikes that do not have the traditional straight crosstube you may need an adapter like the Kuat Ubar Bike Frame Adapter Bar # UB01. This will provide a striaght bar to hang the bikes from so they'll ride level on the rack.
