Recommendation for Trailer Hitch and Wiring Harness for 2017 Subaru Forester
Question:
I want to install your trailer hitch on my 2017 Subaru Forester. Id like your advice as to which hitch to buy, and which wiring package to buy to hook up the trailer lights. The trailer is prepared for the lighting plug -in from the car. The trailer is a MyPod which weighs about 600 lbs. Thanks.

For your 2017 Subaru Forester we have two options for a Class III trailer hitch; The Draw-Tite # 75876 or the Curt # C13144. These two trailer hitches are very similar in that they are both Class III, 2 inch receiver openings with identical tongue and towing weight capacities. I recommend the Draw-Tite Class III # 75876 as you can use a weight distribution system with the Draw-Tite trailer hitch if needed. A Class III, 2 inch hitch will allow for many more options when it comes to other trailer hitch accessories such as bike racks and cargo carriers. I have provided an installation video on a 2017 Subaru Forester for your review.
To wire the vehicle I recommend the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # 118467 because of its easy installation. This is custom fit for your 2017 Subaru Forester and will allow you to attach the trailer connector to the harness once installed, providing the basic trailer lighting functions for your MyPod trailer. I have provided a link to the instruction manual and also a video showing the installation process for your review.
Lastly, for towing your MyPod you will want to get a trailer hitch ball and ball mount. I recommend a ball mount kit # 989900 which comes with two ball mounts of differing rise and drops as well as the two most common sized trailer hitch balls. I have provided a link to a helpful article that details how to choose the correct ball mount so you can be sure that one of the provided ball mounts in the kit will work well with your MyPod trailer.
