You mentioned that the connector at the rear of your 2012 Ford F-150 does not have the additional wires needed to hardwire in a 7-Way trailer connector. I just want to make sure you are looking in the right place. If you follow the factory 4-Way wiring forward under the truck it plugs into another connector. If you pull back the covering on the wiring to that connector that is where you should find the additional wiring needed to wire in the 7-Way you have or our # 37185.
But if it is not there then yes, you would need to hardwire in some of the 7-Way and brake controller. You will need a wiring kit, # 5506, and brake controller wiring harness # 22292 for the p3 # 90195.
The 22292 harness will plug in like normal with 1 exception. The blue wire will need to be removed from the plug on the vehicle side of the harness. To that you will attach a wire, run it through the firewall, and to the blue wire on the 7-Way that you have.
The 12 volt circuit for the 7-Way will also have to be manually run to the positive battery terminal via a 40 amp circuit breaker included in 5506.
And if reverse lights are needed on the trailer then you can connect the reverse light wire to a reverse light on the truck. Otherwise, if not needed, it can be taped up and stowed out of the way.
Last, if there is a separate ground wire on the 7-Way make sure to attach it to the vehicle frame. I have included some links that will help. Just follow the relevant parts since not all of it applies to this particular installation.
