Recommended Hitch & Brake Controller for 1999 Ford F-450 Cab-and-Chassis
Question:
I have a 1999 Gulfstream Sunvoyager on a Ford F450 chassis. I want to pull a flat trailer hauling a Ford F150 truck and a golf cart. The trailer has 10,000 lb axles. Which hitch would you recommend for me

Expert Reply:
I recommend a Class V hitch for your Gulfstream that is based on a 1999 Ford F-450 cab-and-chassis. These are available in both 2-inch and 2-1/2-inch receiver sizes and in tow ratings up to 20K. All can be seen on the linked page. All require drilling into the frame and all include the necessary installation hardware.
You'll want to check your frame width. Most of these hitches are meant for a 34-inch fame width (as measured from outside to outside at the frame rails).
You can click on the receiver tube size you need to see all options. For a 2-inch I suggest the Draw-Tite # 41947 for its combination of moderate price and somewhat easier installation; for a 2-1/2-inch hitch tube I recommend the 20K Curt # C15845.
You will also need a trailer brake controller and 7-way wiring set-up for the trailer. If you need an OEM replacement 7-way use # 118243. For a brake controller I recommend the Prodigy P3 # 90195 along with plug-in harness # 3035-P. Please refer to the linked installation video.
