Recommended Weight Distribution And Sway Control On Wells Cargo Motorcycle Trailer
Question:
Weight distribution and sway control....I am planning to tow a Wells Cargo MC 121-6TE with a 2000 F250 SD. Curb weight of the trailer is 1460 and GVWR is 2990. Plan is to tow a 900 lb motorcycle. Do I really need weight distribution or just sway control for cross winds, passing tractor trailer trucks, etc.? Please offer product recommendations as you see the need. Thanks,

For your Wells Cargo Motorcycle trailer, you can use either sway control or weight distribution with sway control. If you want only sway control, I recommend the Reese Friction Sway Control Kit - Economy - by Draw-Tite, Reese and Hidden Hitch, # 83660 can be used with the Reese Sway-Control Bracket for 2" Ball Mounts - Class III and IV, # RP26003. This system uses a friction to stop sway once it starts. This may be enough for your system depending on the cross winds. Two can be mounted, one on each side, but that will require a weld on tab like # 3442. Sway control may be all you need for your appliction.
For weight distribution with anti-sway, I recommend the Reese Steadi-Flex Weight Distribution System w/ Sway Control - Trunnion - 4K GTW, 400 TW, # 66557. This system will use friction in brackets and in head to prevent and correct sway. The automotive grade friction pads hold the spring bars in place to keep your trailer in line with your truck. This system will more actively control sway.
