Does 2017 Ram 3500 with Cummins Diesel have Towing Capacity for 15k Trailer

Question:

I bought a 2017 Dodge RAM prepped for fifth wheel. It has a the Cummins diesel motor, 4X4 with a 64inch bed. I am looking at purchasing a fifth wheel that is 42foot long, triple axle, and with a dry weight of 15K. My questions is how do I know how much weight I can have on the fifth wheel in the bed of my truck. The Specs on the fifth wheel have a 3360 hitch weight? What is hitch weight?

The 2017 Ram trucks with the Cummins diesel have an insanely high towing capacity. The trailer you are considering which weighs 15k dry is about half of what your truck's towing capacity is so it would not be an issue at all. Hitch weight is most likely tongue weight for a bumper pull trailer.

The B and W Companion part # BWRVK3600 which has a 25k capacity would be a great option as it fits your truck, is the nicest hitch around, and because it has more than enough capacity.

The truck in question shouldn't have any trouble towing a 15K 5th wheel trailer, but the assumption of close to a 30K capacity on the truck may not be correct. The owner definitely needs to verify the truck's towing capacity in the owner's manual before picking out a trailer to ensure safety and performance. There are many different variables and towing packages available, so not all 3500s are created equal.
