Recommended Trailer Hitch Receiver And Cargo Carrier For 2014 Ford Escape
Question:
Hi. I have a 2014 Ford Escape and am interested in the Carpod part # M2205. But I also need to install a hitch. Which hitch would best suit the Carpod? I am looking for one with a weight rating at the higher end ie 500 lb. Also which hitch pin would we need to secure the Carpod to the recommended hitch? Thanks.

For your 2014 Ford Escape, I recommend the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver Class III - 2", # 75782. This is an easy bolt on application that won't interfere with the optional Hands-Free Liftgate. The Draw-Tite # 75758 is also a good option, but not all the sensors of a Hands-Free Liftgate will work with this hitch, although the install is slightly easier. This trailer hitch receiver is compatible with the 23x47 Carpod Walled Cargo Carrier for 2" Hitches - Steel - Folding - 450 lbs, # M2205 you mentioned and won't require the stabilization strap # 18050 that a Curt hitch requires.
For the hitch pin to secure the carrier to the hitch, I recommend the Anti-Rattle Trailer Hitch Receiver Lock for 2" Hitches - 2-5/8" Span, # 63232. This will give you the stabilization as well as the lock to secure it physically for travel as well as to deter theft.
