Recommendations for a Bike Rack that Allows the Rear Hatch to Open on a 2016 Honda CR-V

Question:

Can this bike rack be put on a 2016 Honda CR-V without any issues like opening the rear hatch? Was going to buy it but need to make sure that it is compatible with my car. Also, is this type rack preferable to a single point hanging rack?Appreciate your time and help.

The Swagman Chinook # S64683 will fit the trailer hitches available for the 2016 Honda CR-V but as far as being able to open the rear hatch with the rack tilted it depends on the bikes. We have not tested that on a 2016 Honda CR-V but there is a good chance that you would be able to open the hatch without issue.

To ensure there is no issue you could use a different type of rack such as a swinging bike rack like the RockyMounts Backstage # RKY10002. It can swing off to the side of the vehicle so opening the hatch is no problem. For a swinging rack the vehicle would need to have a 2 inch hitch. I have linked the hitches that fit your CR-V if you need one.

Platform style bike racks are generally easier to load and are compatible with many bike styles. But they can be heavy and difficult to maneuver and store. Hanging racks are lighter but for bike styles that do not have a top frame bar that goes straight across (like a typical men's bike would) an adapter bar # 64005 would be needed.
