Which Vehicles Wires Are Used When Attaching A 4-Way Trailer Connector To A 2005 Ford Focus Wagon

Question:

I purchased a trailer hitch from you last month, but forgot to get a harness I live in Canada, and would like to save shipping charges if I could use a four plug system and tap/splice into current wires. Would like advice on which wires to splice Thank you

You will need to find the vehicles wiring harness that goes to the taillights on your 2005 Ford Focus Wagon. You will need to use a circuit tester like part # PTW2993, to probe the wires and find the correct functions for connecting the wires from your 4-way trailer connector. I am including a video link of connecting a 4-way trailer connector to a 2006 Ford Taurus. It will show you how to probe the wires and how to connect them.

On the Ford vehicles the wire colors are as follows,

the brown wire is taillights connects to brown wire on 4-way
the orange/blue stripe is right turn/brake lights connects to green wire on 4-way
the light green/orange stripe is left turn/brake lights connects to yellow wire on 4-way

The remaining white wire on your 4-way trailer connector needs to be grounded to a good, clean metal surface.

I am including a link to a FAQ page on trailer wiring which will help show you the wire colors and the functions they provide.
