Recommended Weight Distribution System For 3,000 lbs Travel Trailer
Question:
I have a 3000lb travel trailer that tows well with my toyota 4 runner. That said, Im looking to improve the towing characteristics slight... mainly reducing sag on the rear of the vehicle and transferring more weight to the front suspension with a WD hitch. I see you carry many good traditional WD hitch products. But, what about the Andersen WD/Sway hitch? Any experience with these? Do they work as advertised especially for a lighter trailer?

A weight distribution system will help you with the slight sag on the rear of your 2004 Toyota 4runner and help you with the traction and control of your vehicle and trailer. With a weight distribution system, you want to consider the total tongue weight of your loaded trailer along with any cargo behind the rear axle for your 4Runner. Usually the tongue weight of your trailer is 10-15% of it's total weight. I've attached an article to help you determine this.
For your combination, I recommend the Reese Steadi-Flex Weight Distribution System w/ Sway Control - Trunnion - 6K GTW, 600 TW # RP66558. This is a simple bolt on system designed for total tongue weights between 400 and 600 lbs. This system uses trunnion spring bars to create a level ride for both your trailer and tow vehicle. It has an adjustable shank to meet your specific application needs. This system also uses friction on the spring bars to control sway. The flex in the bars creates a constant downward pressure that is resting on a brake pad like material. This allows the bars to move, but the friction helps fight any sway from quick manuevers, or heavy crosswinds. We have actually used this system on an obstacle course and it handles really well. Because it doesn't use the metal on metal friction it isn't as loud as many others systems. It does require a hitch ball like # A-90 for a 2 inch or # 19286 for a 2-5/16 inch application.
I don't have any experience with the Andersen WD/Sway hitch. We do not carry it at this time.
