Best Way to Add Length to 5th Wheel Trailer 7-Way Wiring Harness in 2012 Ford F-250

Question:

I bought and installed this wiring harness for my 2012 F250 prior to picking up our new and first 5th wheel. It was very easy to install. The hardest part was getting the existing 7pin separated. I placed it right in front of the drivers side wheel well, just like in the video of the F350 install. This is a good location as long as Im only going forward, but when backing, I can get it turned tightly enough that the cord actually stretched enough to pull out. What I did not account for was that my truck is a long bed, and it was difficult to know the exact fit with the trailer until we were hitched up. We had no trouble towing the camper home, but now its time to get ready for our next season. The 2 options that I can think of are to relocate the placement of connector in my bed, resulting in another hole in my bed, or buying and installing a longer pigtail on the trailer. Do you have any suggestions?

In the long run you will be glad you have a long bed pickup since 5th wheel towing is much easier with the extra turning clearance you get from a long bed truck like your F-250.

I have a suggestion that will not require you to remove the existing wiring harness, nor to have to drill another hole in the bed side. All you need is a 7-way extension cable like the 7-foot Curt # C56080. All you need to do is insert the trailer's male plug into the female socket and then connect the extension's other end with the male plug to your socket that is already in the bed. This will give you the 7-feet of slack you need for backing up the trailer.

If you want a longer extension you can instead use the 10-foot TorkLift part # TLW6510.
