Economical Sliding Fifth Wheel Trailer Hitch for 2004 Ford F-250 with 6-3/4 Foot Bed
Question:
I need a less expressive option for a fifth wheel hitch for my 2004 F-250. The truck is only rated to pull 14,200 lb but this site insists I have to have a huge and expensive hitch. Help?!?! Lol.

The least expensive fifth wheel trailer hitch we carry to fit your 2004 Ford F-250 with the 6-3/4 foot bed is the Reese Sliding Hitch # RP30051. The reason the hitches that are compatible with your truck are more expensive isn't because of the weight capacity, it's because you have a short bed truck, which requires a sliding hitch in order to have enough clearance to make sharp turns. That is unless your fifth wheel trailer has a Revolution or Sidewinder pin box.
To install a hitch in your F-250 you can use the Universal Base Rails # RP30035 which is the more economical option. The alternative is to install custom rails which are designed specifically for your truck. Custom rails make the installation much easier and faster because they generally don't require drilling into the truck's fame. The custom rail kit for your truck is # 50043-6008.
If you're also interested in adding a wiring harness into the truck bed to make it easier to connect to the trailer, the compatible harness for your F-250 is # 50-97-410.
