How to Route Supplemental Transmission Cooler with Factory Cooler on Chevy Silverado

Question:

I purchased D13403 cooler because I have been running the tranny and engine hot when towing in the mountains. Was thinking of installing so oil hits D13403 first then through stock cooler. Thoughts are the radiator will heat it back up before it gets to tranny. And I was thinking bypassing though tranny wouldnt get warm enough to operate properly. Which do you recommend?

The ideal setup is to run the fluid from the factory cooler, to the supplemental cooler, and then back to the transmission. This will keep the fluid as cool as possible. If you are worried about it being too cold like in the winter you would need to just let the truck idle to warm it up and then you will be good to go. Or the ideal solution is to use a thermostatic bypass that allows the cooler to be bypassed till the fluid reaches 180 degrees. For that you would need # D15719.

Running the supplemental cooler before the factory cooler would be a waste as you wouldn't gain any cooling power when needed.
