How Does Curt Trailer Hitch # 13333 Attach to a 2003 Dodge Ram 1500 Quad Cab

Question:

i have a 2003 dodge ram 1500 quad cab i tow alot of stuff, boat, small enclosed trailer etc. well i noticed i needed a hitch, but when i looked under the truck the actual bumper hitch looks like a actual reese hitch it says it has a tongue weight of 500 lbs, and a max towing of 5000# clearly that cant be just a bumper hitch? does this kit get just bolted onto that stock hitch somehow so i can use my normal 2inch ball reciever?? thank you

The Curt Trailer Hitch, # 13333, for your 2003 Dodge Ram 1500, bolts to the bumper support arm behind the bumper. It requires the removal of the trailer ball hole cap in the center of the bumper. I have included a link to the installation instructions for this hitch that shows pictures and explains the installation steps in detail.

Since the bumper and support arm are attached to the frame, the capacity could very well be 500/5,000. The Curt Trailer Hitch attaches in much the same way and it was a capacity of 600/6,000 (1,000/10,000 with weight distribution). Please note that the Curt trailer hitch is designed for the 2003 Dodge Ram 1500 only if it was built after 11/1/2002.
