Weight Distribution Recommendation for Trailer that Weighs 5,700 lbs

Question:

I am going to be towing a 3950 lb. trailer with a 350lb tongue wt, empty. The gross trailer wt. is 5700 lbs. The truck is a 2016 Ram 2500 with factory rear air bags, having two settings. The purpose of the bags as I understand it is to maintain the ride height when loaded, I am not concerned with the weight handling as much as with sway control. Can you recommend a set up for this? The trailer dealer I am working with has the e2 equalizer trunion set up, but we are not sure. Thanks in advance for you,re help.

The best way to pick out a weight distribution system is to base it off of the loaded tongue weight of the setup when it is loaded and ready to tow. This figure also includes the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle. I attached a help article on determining tongue weight for you to check out as well. You will want the loaded tongue weight of your setup to fall right in the middle of the tongue weight range of the system you use.

When loaded to it's max your trailer's tongue weight is going to be between 570 and 800 most likely. The best WD system with sway control would be the Strait Line part # RP66083 which has a tongue weight range of 400 to 800 lbs and features the only sway control that fights sway before it starts.

For a 2 inch ball you would want part # A-90 and for a 2-5/16 inch ball # 19286.
