Recommended Ball Mount Kit for 2016 Ford Escape Towing Utility Trailers
Question:
what ball mount and balls are recommended for a 2015 ford escape,we currently just use the 2inch receiver for our bike rack, but would use ball if we rented a trailer for yard equipment etc.

The size of utility trailer you're likely to pull with your 2016 Ford Escape will have either a 1-7/8-inch or 2-inch ball coupler so one of these two sizes is likely to be what you need. The trailer's coupler will usually have the correct ball size (or sizes, in the case of an adjustable coupler) stamped into the metal housing.
The best way to go for flexibility is our 2-inch hitch Ball Mount Kit # 989900 which includes two ball mounts with different amounts of rise and drop, as well as two hitch balls and a hitch pin with clip. All of these items come in a handy tote bag and make this cost-effective towing kit the best way to go for using rented and/or borrowed utility trailers whose coupler size you do not know in advance.
If any of the trailers has a 4-pole wiring connector for lights then you'll also need a harness to operate them. If you do not have the factory tow package you can use kit # 118566, installation of which you can see in the linked video. If you do have the factory tow package wiring then the only part needed to complete the trailer wiring is part # HM40975 which provides both 4-pole flat and 7-way blade type connectors.
