Recommended 4-Way and 7-Way Trailer Wiring For 2017 Toyota Tacoma
Question:
I have a 2017 Toyota Tacoma without a towing package and would like to install a 7 and 4 pin connector item number HM40975 to it. My question is will it fit my truck and do you sell a wiring harness to connect it to my truck?

We do have the wiring to fit your 2017 Toyota Tacoma. We first need to make a 4-way trailer connection, and to do that we will want the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector, # C56349. This harness will connect behind the tail lights of your truck and then run a hot lead wire to your battery. This will protect your vehicle wiring from any issues and it is an easy connect without any splicing into factory wiring. Just simple clip connections. It is recommended to use a small amount of Dielectric grease on these connections, # 11755.
Then we will want to use the Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller - 7-Way RV and 4-Way Flat - 10 Gauge Wires, # ETBC7. This kit will give you all the wiring, the circuit breakers, and the connections you will need to hardwire the remaining 3 functions of the 7-way connector. I've attached a video of this installation for you as well as the installation instructions. However, if you like the look of the # HM40975 you mentioned, you can still choose to use it, but you will also need the # PK11998, and the # 5506 to get the functions of the # ETBC7.
We will also want to install a brake controller to get the full function of the 7-way connection. For that, I recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy P3, # 90195. This brake controller has a really nice LCD display that takes the guess work out of deciphering lights and codes for functions. It is a proportional controller that will apply braking to your trailer with the same amount of force as you hit the brakes in your Tacoma. It has 3 levels of boost as well to help make your towing experience match your desires. I've attached an article on brake controllers to help.
