According to the owner's manual for the 2013 Chevy Captiva Sport the initial procedure when you start towing for the day is to:
1. Position the vehicle that will be towed and secure it to the towing vehicle.
2. Turn the ignition key to ACC/ACCESSORY.
3. Shift the transmission to N (Neutral).
4. Turn fog lamps and all accessories off.
5. To prevent the battery from draining while the vehicle is being towed, remove the 2 amp PWR/MODING fuse from the instrument panel fuse block and store it in a safe location.
Then it states:
Once the destination has been reached:
1. Set the parking brake.
2. Shift the transmission to P (Park).
3. Reinstall the 2 amp PWR/MODING fuse to the instrument panel fuse block.
4. Turn the ignition key to LOCK/OFF and remove the key from the ignition.
These are the only procedures specified. If at any time you take the vehicle out of tow mode by starting it or changing key position, or shifting you will need to run through the initial 5 steps again so it is ready to flat tow again.
