Tire Replacement for 235/80-16 For Additional Capacity

Question:

I have a 2012 Open Range 5th wheel that is rated at 14K and the stock tires are 235/80-16 E. I have had a couple blow outs and where all the tires had to be replaced due to bulging. I suspect that the weight of the trailer is too much for load range E tires. I noticed on your web site from other customers that have swapped out the 80 with 85 getting a load range G capability. Other than cost are there any other issues with making this change? Also am I able to request steel stems with the wheels

Going to the bigger tire size of 235/85-16 will be your best option but you should note that you will gain about 3/4 of an inch in overall tire diameter so you will need to be aware of that.

The part # TTWPRG235R16 will be your best option. This tire has a 4,400-lb max load at 110 psi capacity, is a radial which is preferred and has a higher speed rating of 81 MPH when compared to other tires that are only rated for 65 MPH.

The valve stems you would need would depend on the which you are using but most likely you would want the # AM20906 which would be a chrome-plated brass stem rated for the amount of pressure you need.
