Does Weight Distribution/Sway Control Stop Trailer Sway from Too Light Tongue Weight

Question:

I am towing a 2010 r pod 151 with a 2015 KIA Sorento 6 cylinder with tow package. The pod sways even a relatively low speeds 40 mph. 400 pounds of sand in bags in the front of the trailer stopped the sway and took up all storage space under the sink. The tongue weight is 241 lbs. The trailer weight is just under 2000 lbs. So the sand redistributed the weight and that worked but I would like my storage space back. Would a sway bar and/or WDH take care of the problem? Or what about putting the extra weight on the tongue in the form of a second propane tank or a box to store heavy things in or to carry water jugs? Thanks for your help.

Weight distribution systems and sway control will not prevent the sway you are experiencing at 40 MPH. The only way to do that is with one of the tactics you described. Either keep the sand bags or add an additional propane tank or storage box.

WD and SC systems are great for preventing sway from wind but not from tongue weight issues.

Only other solution could be that your trailer is sitting to nose high. If so leveling out the trailer will help greatly.

I attached a help article on this as well.
