Recommended Rightline Rooftop Cargo Bag for 2016 Honda Pilot
Question:
I have a curt C18100 hitch mounted cargo carrier. I want to add a weatherproof cargo bag for an upcoming trip. What is my best option to maximize storage? Saw something in reviews about bags being melted by exhaust and dont want to waste $ if that is a problem. I have a 2016 Honda Pilot. Thanks

Exhaust heat can be a concern when using certain accessories like hitch cargo carriers. We recommend at least a foot of clearance between the exhaust tip and the nearest part of the carrier to avoid heat damage to the carried items. If the vehicle has an exhaust tip that turns outward (away from the carrier) then this tends to reduce the concern over heat.
Since you're looking to add incremental storage capacity to your current set-up I suggest using a roof-mounted cargo bag along with the hitch carrier and simply load each one with the items that are best suited to each carrier.
For instance, if you had the Rightline Rooftop Waterproof Cargo Bag # RL100S30 you could use that for your lighter items such as clothing and reserve the space on the hitch carrier for the heavier/sturdier items like camping gear. This bag fits on both bare roofs and roof racks. You can add the clip set # RL100600 to avoid having to run the straps through the vehicle's interior. And to protect your roof's painted finish we suggest a non-skid pad # RL100650. It is always a good idea to ensure both the roof and bag surfaces are clean and free of grit to help avoid any scratches to the Pilot's paint.
