Blue Ox Weight Distribution System for 2016 GMC Sierra 2500 HD Towing 10,000 Pound Trailer
Question:
I have a 2016 GMC 2500 HD and a Coachman 36foot bumper pull travel trailer with a 10,000 lb gross trailer weight. What kind of equalizer sway control hitch would you recommend. I was leaning toward a blue ox.

To choose the correct weight distribution system you need to know the tongue weight of the loaded and ready to tow trailer, plus the amount of weight that will be loaded in the bed of your 2016 GMC 2500 behind the rear axle.
A trailer's tongue weight is usually about 10 to 15 percent of its GTW, so you're likely looking at 1,000 to 1,500 pounds. The best way to determine your tongue weight is to weigh it using a scale like # e99044. Once you have this number add in the weight stored behind the rear axle of your truck. You want to make sure your system is enough to handle the weight, but not too much over. If your system is rated too high, it will make the ride very stiff and rigid.
For a Blue Ox, the Blue Ox SwayPro Weight Distribution # BXW1500 is a good choice because it isn't likely you're maxing out the 15 percent tongue weight estimate but you probably have some gear in your truck. This is the heaviest system we carry unless you have a 2-1/2 inch hitch receiver.
If you feel like your setup is going be on the heavy side of everything and you need to go heavier, you can get the Blue Ox hitch I mentioned and then add the 2,000 pound spring bars, part # BXW4014.
