Installation of Andersen Ultimate Connection 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch on 2006 Chevrolet Silverado
Question:
Which way do you place the hitch to the short side to the front or to the back short bed real version 2006 Silverado Chevy

Andersen states that you can install the the hitch either way in the truck bed, but they advise if used in a short bed vehicle you should mount the short side toward the tailgate of the truck. Doing this will give you extra clearance between the trailer and the vehicle.
Andersen also advises that once you get everything hooked together you should drive your vehicle and trailer and make slow turns to make sure that you still have enough clearance or to know how much turning clearance you will have before taking off on a trip. They advise you have someone to help you to make sure that you do not have any clearance issues that might damage either your trailer or vehicle.
If you are still in the market for a hitch, then I recommend one of the slider hitches that we carry for your truck. Slider hitches will give you more clearance to work with and allow you to complete a 90-degree turn easier than the Andersen style hitch. The Andersen hitch will have a fixed offset for turning clearance of 5 inches while the slider hitches will give you a longer clearance travel that will ensure you can make the sharper turns and not damage your trailer or vehicle.
I recommend looking at the Demco Hijacker Auto Slide, # DM8550040 for the 5-1/2 bed and 13k rated or # DM8550034 for the 6-1/2 bed and 18k rated on your 2006 Chevy Silverado. The Demco Autoslide hitches will give you travel of 22 inches for the 13k hitch and 14 inches of travel on the 18k hitch. The autoslide hitch will also allow you to back up and turn without leaving the cab of the truck to engage the slider on the hitch.
