How to Bypass Trailer Brake Output Circuit Short on 2014 Ram Using Factory Wiring
Question:
I have a 2014 ram 2500 and have been using the factory brake controller for a couple years. But when my running lights on my trailer grounded out then my electric brakes quit working. Had the trailer checked from trailer plug back and that all works. So I installed the P3 and get an output shortage message. I put a test light on the electric brake prong on the 7 way on my truck and applied the brakes and the light was dim. Any ideas why I am suddenly not getting enough power to my electrets electric brakes and do not have a fuse blown?

The brake output circuit is somewhere shorting out to another circuit or to a metal surface of your Ram. One easy way to bypass this is to cut the blue wire out of the harness that is run to your truck and then hardwire a 10 gauge wire back to the brake output of your 7-way which is the 5:00 pin on the 7-way.
Mopar factory wiring can be a bit messy to deal with. Typically when there's a bad enough short you have to take the vehicle to a dealer to have things reset.
We carry 10 gauge wire sold by the foot, part # 10-1-1.
