Recommended Weight Distribution System for Heartland Northtrail 21FBS Trailer

Question:

I have a new Heartland Northtrail 21FBS. Gvwr says 6900#, tongue wt 397#. Towing with a 2004 Tahoe with trailering package. Im thinking Equalizer 90 -00-1000, but I dont want the ride too stiff. Its only my wife and I and we dont carry too much stuff and all the water tanks are in the rear. We will usually carry them near empty. Your suggestion?

The Equal-i-zer system you mention is a very nice weight distribution and anti-sway system. The system you referenced may be a little too big and too stiff for the weights you gave. I recommend that you measure the tongue weight of your trailer when fully loaded the way you would travel to give you the most accurate tongue weight that you will be using this system for. Total tongue weight is calculated by the tongue weight of the fully loaded trailer and the cargo behind the rear wheel of the tow vehicle. I've attached articles on weight distribution and determining trailer tongue weight to help.

If your tongue weight when loaded is 600-1000 lbs, then I recommend the # EQ37100ET. This system has 4 points of sway control that limit the side to side movement with steel on steel friction with the extra two points being in the head of the unit. The spring bars flex approprately for a controlled, even ride without the bounce.

If your total tongue weight is under 600 lbs, I recommend the Fastway e2 Weight Distribution w/ 2-Point Sway Control - Trunnion - 8,000 lbs GTW, 800 lbs TW # FA92-00-0800, for your Heartland Northtrail Trailer. This is a two point steel on steel friction sway control system that helps ensure your trailer stays in line with your tow vehicle. This system will operate very similarly to an Equal-i-zer system.

Either system comes with everything you need to simply bolt to your trailer frame, connect to your hitch, and begin enjoying the benefits.
