Recommended Weight Distribution System for Trailer with Over 1,000 Pounds Tongue Weight

Question:

I have a 2013 F150 Platinum with stock suspension. I plan on pulling a 32foot Keystone Travel Trailer with hitch weight 1013 lbs. and gross weight of 8703 lbs. Adding my +/- 500lbs camping gear, what is the recommended hitch weight distribution kit recommended? Please advise.

If you add 500 pounds to your tongue weight you will be at roughly 18 percent of your gross trailer weight which is higher than normal. If you can keep it down to 15 percent or lower that would be ideal.

For a weight distribution system I like the Reese Steadi-Flex systems. They use automotive-style friction pads, very much like brake pads, to produce the friction to keep your trailer in line with your truck. I have first hand experience with these and they definitely work. I suggest going with the 1,200 pound # RP66560 unless you are going to be adding a lot of tongue weight use the 1,400 pound system # RP66561.

For a 2 inch ball # A-90 will fit and for a 2-5/16 inch use # 19286.
