Correct Installation Position for Curt 5th Wheel Install Kit C16424-204 in 2014 Ford F-350 Longbed
Question:
Hi I recently purchased a Curt C16424-204 base rail kit for my 2014 Ford f350. I installed it per the instructions and with an older Reese15,000 lb fifth wheel hitch. Only problem is the center of the hitch is not approx 4 inches in front of the center of the axle of the truck. Its actually a little behind the axle. Is this a matter of concern?

The Curt custom 5th wheel installation kit # C16424-204 is a confirmed fit in your 2014 Ford F-350 with 8-foot bed and without the factory rail kit. The installation instructions, which are linked for you, indicate the correct position of the front base rail. The REAR edge of the FRONT rail should be positioned 54-3/16-inches from the rear edge of the truck bed (not the tailgate, but the bed itself). You can check your installation to ensure this is where your front rail is installed.
In this position the hitch jaws (where the trailer king pin will be when it is hitched) will be about an inch forward of the rear axle centerline. This pin weight location does matter; a 5th wheel king pin should never be behind the axle when you are using a fixed type hitch. If the trailer pin weight is behind the axle then you could lose front-end braking and steering performance because the truck's front end will be lighter.
