Recommended 4-Way To 7-Way Adapter For 2008 Ford F-150 With 4-Way Trailer Connector
Question:
I have a 2008 Ford F150 STX with the 4.6L V-8. the truck does not have the tow package but I have installed a factory hitch from a junk yard truck. My truck does have the 4 pin trailer plug but I need to pull a small camper that has a 7 pin. is there a harness that I could use so I can use my 4 pin for my open trailer and then be allowed to use the 7 pin for the camper.

We do have a wiring adapter that will plug into the 4-way on your 2008 F-150 and give you a 7-way and a 4-way at the back of your truck.
You will need part # 37185. This gives you the 4-way functions and the additional wires for the 7-way are available for brakes, power, and an auxiliary wire for 12V power, reverse lights, or even a reverse lockout for trailer brakes. The black wire is for 12V power from the positive post on the battery. The white wire is a ground and is attached to the vehicle frame. The blue is used to connect to the output wire on a brake controller if you need one. Any wires that are not needed can be taped or capped off.
When working with electrical connectors I recommend using dielectric grease like part # 11755. This keeps dirt and moisture out of the electrical connections and helps prevent corrosion.
If you need a brake controller for brakes on the trailer I recommend the P2, part # 90885. This is our most popular brake controller because it is easy to install and operate. I also recommend the plug-in adapter, part # 3035-P. This plugs into the factory plug located beneath the dash, near the center console.
