Expert Reply:
If your 2005 Dodge Ram 2500 came wired from the factory with a 7-Way plug, all you would need to install the # 90885 Prodigy P2 brake controller would be the controller itself and the custom plug-in brake control wiring adapter # 3020-P.
If your truck only came wired with a 4-Way plug, the electric brake wire was only partially run at the factory, so this wire would need to be connected in order for the brake controller to activate the brakes on the trailer. Locate the necessary blue wire by finding the connector, right behind your driver side wheel well. You will see wires, including the blue electric brake wire from the front of the truck, but the blue wire will not continue toward the rear of the vehicle. Tap into this blue wire and connect it to the electric brake wire on your 7-Way plug, usually the bottom right pin.
I am including some links to additional information on wiring your Ram for an electric brake controller that should be helpful.
I recommend taking a look at our FAQ on installing a brake controller on a Dodge truck, as it has some close up pictures that should be helpful for you. You can also view a video showing a typical installation of a similar brake controller on a Dodge truck.
