Current Output Capacity for Tekonsha 4-Pole Trailer Wiring Harness 118675
Question:
What is the suitable amp range for a 4 flat connector I seen 40 amps for a 7 pin connector

Expert Reply:
4-pole wiring harnesses, which carry stop, turn and tail light signals, generally have a current output in the range of 2 to 4 amps in each of the stop/turn circuits and from 4 to 7.5-amps in the taillight circuit. These current ratings can vary by harness manufacturer and by vehicle year, make and model.
The Tekonsha harness # 118675 which fits your 2016 VW Tiguan has a maximum output of 4.2- and 7.5-amps.
On a 7-way RV-style trailer connector the 12V auxiliary power circuit will usually be protected by a 40-amp circuit breaker like # PK54540.
