Does Impact Bar Need To Be Removed When Installing Trailer Hitch On 2015 Volvo V60

Question:

I have a 2015 Volvo V60 and would like to add your trailer hitch that replaces the rear impact bar. The dealer was concerned that this is not a good solution. This said, my concern is how does the replacing the impact bar with your hitch member affect the impact resistance on the rear of the car, and if impacted would the new configuration result in more damage as it looks like the impact bar is made to crumple. Thanks

In the installation instructions for the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver, part # 75916 the impact beam is removed in step 3. It is then re-installed in step 8, so you do not have to worry about the trailer hitch and the amount of damage that would occur with it removed.

The # 75916 is a Class lll hitch and it has a 2-inch receiver opening.

If you plan on doing some towing you might be interested in etrailer ball mount kit # 989900. It comes with 2 ball mounts; one with a 3/4 inch rise or 2 inch drop and one with a 2-3/4 inch rise or 4 inch drop. It also includes a 1-7/8 inch ball, 2 inch ball, hitch pin with clip, and a storage bag.

If the ball mount kit does not include a ball mount with the right rise or drop to tow the trailer level, check out the link I have included that explains how to measure to choose a ball mount to tow the trailer level.

If you need trailer wiring and your V60 is a 2015-1/2 or newer the wiring kit I recommend is part # C56287.
