Recommended Trailer Hitch Receiver for 1983 Lindy II RV on a Chevrolet Frame

Hi! We have a GMC/Chevrolet motorhome built on a truck base, built in 1983. We would like to know if it is possible to put a towbar on the back of this, to tow a trailer with a boat on it. Can you tell me whether this is possible and what specs you would advise for the towbar? If you need more info about the motorhome please let me know what you need to know! kind regards Attached are the photos. As far as we are aware the frame has not been altered in any way, and it is the original motor and wiring for driving. The manufacturer is probably "suburban trailers"? We have made a photo of the labels on the van. It was registered in 1983.

I did a little research on your Lindy II RV and it was manufactured by Skyline. There are a lot of different motorhomes that were built on the cut-away van chassis, so the pictures you sent were extremely helpful. With the RV coming out that far from the rear axle, a hitch for the regular van won't work. We do however have universal-fit weld on hitches that you can have installed to allow you to pull your boat trailer.

Depending on the drop you need from your frame to get under the rear bumper, we have some options for you. I'll narrow it down to sizes that may be appropriate for your application.

The Curt Adjustable Trailer Hitch Receiver - 18"-51" Wide - 2" Drop - Class III - 2", # C13701.
The Draw-Tite Ultra Frame Service Body Trailer Hitch Receiver - Weld On - Class V - 2" has a 7 inch drop and is # 41990-07.

You may also want an adjustable ball mount to allow you to tow your trailer level. I'd recommend the Curt Channel Style Adjustable Ball mount, # C45900. This ball mount will give you two hitch ball options (2 inch and 2-5/16 inch) as well as a 5-1/2 inch rise or 6 inch drop. This adjusts in 1 inch increments. The distance from the center of the pin hole to the center of the hitch ball is 10-1/4 inches with the closest pin hole and 11-1/4 inches with the farthest pin hole. That should be plenty of room to clear your rear bumper.

You will also need wiring for your vehicle side connection. I'd suggest the 4-Pole Hardwire Kit with Circuit Tester # 18252.
