Availability of a 4-Way to 7-Way Trailer COnnector Adapter for a Ford Escape
Question:
I am buying a Triton TC16 trailer that has a 7 wire blade connector but my Ford Escape has only a 4 wire flat connector. The trailer does NOT have brakes and the 7 wire connector is just to power the extra upper lighting and interior lighting. Just to get the new trailer home and until I get the correct wiring installed, is there a simple adapter cable that will allow me to just plug it in - recognizing that the circuits that needed the extra wiring would not be working? This would not be a safety issue because wouldnt the basic brake, tail, and signal lights still work?

From what it sounds like, the connector on the trailer is wired a bit differently from what is typical. To adapt your 4-pole connector to a 7-way, I would recommend part # 37185. Hopefully, the running lights, turn signals and brake lights on the trailer connector are correctly wired. If they are, this adapter should work great for you.
Once the adapter is connected to your existing 4-pole, you can test the basic lighting to ensure that everything is working correctly.
I have provided links to our wiring help page, which features basic wiring diagrams and information about how a 7-way connector is typically wired. There is a photo that shows how the connector on the trailer should be wired so that it matches properly with the connector on the vehicle.
