Trailer Lights Not Working when Connected to a 2017 Volvo XC90

Question:

Have 2017 volvo xc90 with led lights and i just installed a tow bar with the wiring at the dealership however my trailer lights dont wirk when i connect it to the volvo. My trailer does not have led lights, just the old 2 wire lights. Do i need a converter? If so what do you recommend that will fit 2017 volvo xc90 t6? So far i havent found anything compatible. Or is it pissible to just switch to led lights on my trailer?

If the dealer installed the Volvo wiring harness on your 2017 Volvo XC90 then they may need to do something to make it active. I would inquire with them but they should have done that when the harness was installed.

If you are using wiring harness # 118683 then make sure the fuse is inserted in its power wire and that the power wire is connected to the battery as indicated in the instructions. Also make sure the white ground wire is attached to a bare metal surface.

Also make sure the trailer side connector is clean and free of corrosion and that all of the lights are properly ground to bare metal surfaces. If the trailer has a lot of lights the power draw could be too much for the wiring harness to handle but usually when that happens the converter box or fuse will blow. If it was an overdraw situation then switching the trailer over to LED lights would solve that problem.
