All you will need to install the P2 brake controller in your 2016 GMC Sierra 1500 is the proper wiring harness. For your truck it is # 3016. There was a time when you would have to hardwire the brake controller to the tow package wiring on GM trucks. But for your 2016 GM went back to providing a port to plug it right in. I have included a link to a video showing how and where the 3016 harness installs.

I'm sick of my factory set up in my gmc. Can't fix the problem "service trailer brake" Can I install another system (better) in my truck without having to go to a dealership for anything? I'd like to install a plug and play proportional system. My trailer is in Pa. and I'm in Syracuse NY. In a hurry to go pick it up from where I left it. Thanks.
