I'm happy to help with getting your 2012 GMC Acadia connected to your trailer. Let's start with the vehicle and work our way back. For your vehicle, I'd recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Contoller # 90195. This is a proportional brake controller for 1-4 axles, so it will work with the pressure you apply to the brakes in your Acadia and use that same braking force at the trailer. It has advanced diagnostics with a simple to understand LCD display.
If you have a factory tow package, you can use Teckonsha Plug-In Wiring Adapter # 3026-P for a simple plug and play installation. I've attached videos of this installation with or without a tow-package. If you don't have a 7-Way Connector at the back of your vehicle, I'd recommend our Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller 7-Way and 4-Way, # ETBC7. This kit includes everything you need to connect a brake controller to an existing 4-way. I've included a video of this installation.
For your marine trailer, I recommend HydraStar Marine Electric over Hydraulic Actuator w/ Breakaway and 7-Way Harness for use with Drum Brakes # HS381-9066. This system uses your electronic brake controller to activate your trailer's hydraulic brakes. The manual override can be used on your brake controller to activate your trailer's breaks with this system. This system uses marine-grade gasket and stainless steel hardware to make actuator ideal for marine use. The breakaway kit activates your trailer's brakes if the trailer disconnects from the tow vehicle.
This system is not compatible with all brake controllers, but it is compatible with the Prodigy P3 # 90195 mentioned. This combination will give you an excellent complete system.
