How to Charge a Battery in my Enclosed Trailer Using the 7-way Trailer Connector on my 2012 Ram ST
Question:
I have a 2012 Dodge ram st and I tow a 6x14 enclosed trailer. I have a 65 series automotive battery mounted in my trailer that I use to charge batteries for my rc airplanes. Is there a way to charge this battery thru the 7 way harness from my truck

Expert Reply:
The 7-way trailer connector at the rear of your 2012 Ram ST has a 12V circuit on it that can be used to provide a maintenance charge on the battery in your trailer. However, it will not be enough charge to recharge a dead battery.
To connect the battery to your 7-way you can use # 10-1-1, which is sold by the foot. Connect the # 10-1-1 to the positive terminal of the battery and the 12V pin on the back of your 7-way which will likely be in the 1'O'clock position (See the attached diagram). The connect the negative terminal to a clean metal surface on the frame of the trailer to create the ground.
