Will Slipper Spring for 4,300-lb Trailer Axles Work For Axle Rated For 2600-Lb Axle

Question:

Looking to replace the leafs on a 1993 load rite tandem axle boat trailer. This seems like the one. The rating stamped on the trailer is 5300GAWR, 2600 lb axle. 5x4-1/2 bolt pattern on wheels and 2inch x 2inch square axle. The existing leaves are 4 leaf, 1.5+/- thick. Could the axle rating on the tag be derated?

I did some research and for a 2-inch square axle the rating can be between 2,200 to 3,500 lbs. It sounds like the tag on your trailer axle falls within that range.

The 4-Leaf Slipper Spring, part # e33SR you asked about is designed to work with trailer axles up to 4,300-lbs. This can result in a little stiffer ride but the dimensions are most important so if the mounting dimensions are a match for your trailer, # e33SR will work great for you.
