Recommended Weight Distribution With Sway Control For 31-Ft Trailer With Dry Weight Of 5800-LBs

Question:

I have a 2005 Yukon Denali XL. Im purchasing a trailer that ways 5800 lbs. and is 31 feet long from end to end including hitch. Which load leveling hitch do you recommend. Its not a toy hauler. Just the normal stuff will be in the trailer.

The best way to find a weight distribution system that will work for you is to know what the total tongue weight is. You would find that by adding the tongue weight of your trailer when it is fully-loaded and ready to tow added to the weight of any cargo you place behind the rear axle of your Yukon. You need to consider things like camping gear, food, water, and any other equipment you plan on carrying.

You would then pick a system that your total tongue weight falls as close to the middle of the system's tongue weight range as possible.

Based on the dry weight of your trailer 5800-lbs the tongue weight will be somewhere between 580 and 870 lbs. By the time you add the additional weight of the cargo I would recommend a system that has a tongue weight range between 600 and 1200-lbs like the Strait-Line Weight Distribution w Sway Control, part # RP66074. I have attached a link to an installation video for this system you can check out. Even though the vehicle is different than your, the installation would be the same.

This system comes with sway-control that helps you keep your trailer under control when in windy conditions or when passing large trucks on the highway.

The system does not come with an adjustable shank or hitch ball. For a shank I recommend part # RP3215 that has a 6-3/4 inch drop to 11-1/2 inch rise. For a hitch ball I recommend part # 19286.
